MARIE WAS HONOURED IN SEPTEMBER 2018.
MARIE’S STORY-HER LIFE WITH THE  ACR PASSENGER TRAIN:
The ACR passenger train was used by Marie for years to reach her camp at Achigan Lake.
“CN had the train scheduled, Sault to Hearst on Sunday and Hearst to Sault on Saturday which did not suit most working people. I phoned Hearst before objecting then went to Tony Martin who was the MP. He arranged for me to meet with others who had also contacted him". They met for lunch and decided to start a train promotion group”.
For several years, she worked along with other CAPT volunteers to increase the public’s awareness and to get their support, to have more input regarding the ACR schedules. A few years later they worked to prevent the loss of the passenger train.
Their concern led to meetings with politicians, business men, and others. They used a variety of methods to involve the general public. They held rallies, developed special train events e.g. Group of Seven and Glenn Gould trip to Wawa. They started a website and an email campaign that continues today. She,and the other original volunteers were responsible for starting (CAPT) Coalition for Algoma Passenger Trains which is still very active today.
